National Highways provides A417 Missing Link update

Work on the A417 Missing Link project in Gloucestershire is progressing, with National Highways saying that it has completed the foundation piling works at Shab Valley.

The team have now started piling at Stockwell to prepare for the Stockwell overpass. With the earthworks completed in the area, the focus is now on building the support columns for the Gloucestershire Way Crossing. Work is also progressing well at Grove Farm, with drainage mats being laid in preparation for further work.

The Cowley Roundabout contraflow, which was introduced at the beginning of the month, is proving effective and traffic is flowing well with no delays reported. This is necessary so that National Highways can create a safe working space as the building of Cowley junction, where the new section of the A417 will tie into the existing carriageway, begins.

Last month ten 100-tonne steel beams were moved into place to support what will be the UK’s largest “green bridge” that will serve as a crossing for active travel enthusiasts, horse riders and wildlife.

The £460m project, due to be completed in 2027, has also maintained its status as an Ultra Site under the Considerate Contractors Scheme.
