Three of the newest members of the UK’s Intelligent Transport Systems industry association have summarised their organisations’ operations and outlined their plans for their involvement in the society.

Representatives of Balfour Beatty, Amalo Consulting and Wood all joined ITS (UK) Executive Members at the latest Council meeting in London, which was also streamed to participants online.

Andrew Dodsworth, Programme Director at Balfour Beatty commented, “Joining ITS (UK) as an Executive Member provides the unique opportunity for networking and engaging in the ITS expert community, leveraging the valuable information resources, and getting involved in advancing Transport Innovation in the UK.  Balfour Beatty are excited to be part of ITS (UK) and joining a vibrant community to both benefit from, and contribute to, their expertise.  We look forward to working together to shape the industry.”

At the meeting, Mr Dodsworth explained about Balfour Beatty’s mission to use technology to make transport more efficient, hence why he chose to join ITS (UK).  He invited Members to pitch their innovations, explaining Balfour Beatty has a long history of innovation on the M25 as part of the Connect Plus consortium.

He was joined by new member Wood, represented by Technical Director, Transport Decarbonisation, David Trousdale.  He told the meeting that his company delivers solutions across roads, rail, air and sea, where it sees today’s challenges as opportunity to engineer smarter mobility solutions, harness new technologies and equip transport operators and developers for the future.  Mr Trousdale said he brought Wood into the Society after his experience setting up the Data Forum in a previous role with an existing member.

“Wood are excited to join ITS (UK) as a new organisation,” he said. “With 40,000 professionals, across 60 countries, we are one of the world’s leading consulting and engineering companies operating across Energy and the Built Environment. We are united by our common purpose to unlock solutions to the world’s most critical challenges. Our focus as part of ITS UK will be to contribute to the growing area of Zero Emissions Mobility (ZEM) including the technologies, solutions and systems which will deliver a decarbonised transport future. This includes a focus on EV charging/ Hydrogen refuelling, transitioning fleets to ZEM, first/ last mile freight decarbonisation, micromobility and active travel and mobility hubs.”

Along with the two multinationals, Amalo Consulting’s Nathan Brook discussed his business’s consulting expertise within the ITS and Transport Planning fields. Mr Brook has has 20 years’ experience in ITS design, implementation and operation, providing a comprehensive end to end service on ITS projects. Mr Brook, who owns the business, has delivered signals engineering, modelling and construction projects. 

“Membership of ITS (UK) is a great opportunity for Amalo Consulting to further develop knowledge and relationships within the industry,” Mr Brook said. “With significant experience in the ITS, transport planning and modelling sectors, Amalo Consulting hopes to play an active part in furthering the ITS field.”  At the meeting Mr Brook admited he took time to join ITS (UK) because he did not realise a company his size was able to.  ITS (UK) stresses it is a membership organisation for anyone involved in transport technology, from multinationals to micro-SMEs.

“Seeing three new members share their differing positions within transport underlined to me the value of ITS (UK) in bringing together such a wide range of expertise,” commented Secretary General Jennie Martin.  “Our constant growth of membership is helping us go from strength to strength as the independent voice of transport technology in the UK, and we look forward to all our new members adding to that voice.”

Three other companies – Eloy, KERBED IT and Morodo – have all signed up to the Society this year.  It is hoped they will participate in a future ITS (UK) Council meeting.
