New Local Authority Business Director joins Amey

Amey has announced the appointment of a new Local Authority Business Director to help deal with what it describes as the ‘significant opportunities and challenges’ facing local authorities across the UK.

Taking responsibility for contracts in Staffordshire, Kent, Trafford and Surrey, plus Amey’s UK-wide traffic management team, George Pargeter will join Amey in February 2022.

Delivering a vast portfolio of services with local authorities, Amey’s capabilities span highways maintenance and management, traffic management, highways construction and the provision of waste management.

Andy Denman, Highways and Waste Collections Sector Director, said: “I am delighted George is joining my leadership team at Amey. With a wealth of experience and knowledge of the highways industry, George brings with him new approaches to providing more efficient services, which will deliver greater social impact and environmental benefits to our clients, customers and communities.”

Mr Pargeter joins Amey from a 27-year career at Balfour Beatty, where he was most recently Project Director for the South East. Responsible for major schemes on behalf of National Highways, such as the A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, M20 Project Brock and Lower Thames Crossing Pre-Enabling Work, George brings considerable project delivery experience from initial contract negotiations through to successful completion and handover.

Having managed a wide range of civil engineering projects in the UK and internationally, he has worked extensively with national and local government agencies throughout his career.

Mr Pargeter added: “This is an incredibly exciting time in the highways industry, where we are all faced with significant challenges to adapt how we work. Wrestling with stretched budgets, increasing customer expectations, delivering net zero targets amongst many others, this is an opportune time for the private and public sector to collaborate and develop innovative approaches to tackling and overcoming future policy and political developments.”
