New Welsh First Minister to remove blanket 20 mph limit

Wales’s new First Minister says she will allow councils to raise the limit back to 30mph on some roads.

The Daily Telegraph reports Eluned Morgan said there should be a “conversation with the public” around the limit, and to which roads it should apply to.

Welsh Government introduced its flagship 20mph policy in September last year, and the report says that limit remain in built-up areas and around schools and hospitals.

Her predecessor, Vaughan Gething, had also said the idea would be reviewed, while the Telegraph adds that councils could start raising speeds next month, as it “wasn’t appropriate on certain routes”.
