Operation Brock: Contraflow lifting date revealed, but with M20 closure

An exact date for the removal of Operation Brock from the M20 has now been confirmed. And it will require an overnight closure of the busy motorway.

It has been confirmed Operation Brock will be removed overnight between Sunday 1 September and Monday 2 September.

Drivers have contended with the controversial contraflow system since the start of summer, having been reinstated ahead of the school holidays on July 10. As the summer break draws to a close, the traffic management system on the coastbound carriageway, between Junction 8 for Leeds Castle and Junction 9 for Ashford, is due to be lifted this coming weekend, says Kent Live.

Alongside the contraflow, Dover TAP has been in operation on the A20, which manages the release of HGVs down to the port. In all, Dover TAP has been activated on 22 occasions since the arrival of Operation Brock this summer.

his year also saw the introduction of a new permit system for freight drivers, trialled by the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum (KMRF). For the removal of Operation Brock to take place, a section of the M20 will close overnight between Sunday and Monday.

From 7pm to 6am, the coastbound carriageway will shut from Junction 7 to Junction 9. Traffic will be diverted via the A249, M2, A2 and A20 before rejoining the M20. During the same time period, the London-bound carriageway will close between Junctions 9 and 8. Road users will need to follow a diversion via the A20, A2, M2 and A229.
