The open autonomous vehicle software company Oxbotica has appointed Gavin Jackson as its new CEO.
It says he joins Oxbotica with unrivalled experience in the technology sector, having previously held senior leadership positions at Microsoft and Amazon Web Services (AWS). As Microsoft UK managing director, Gavin was responsible for leading its enterprise commercial business, and as AWS managing director, he oversaw all EMEA operations.
Mr Jackson takes up the role of CEO at Oxbotica with immediate effect and will help accelerate and scale the company’s commercial deployment of its autonomous vehicle software across multiple domains.
Oxbotica says it is accelerating the path to mass-commercialisation of autonomous mobility by partnering with category leaders in multiple fleet-operating domains. For instance, Oxbotica is developing applications of its autonomous vehicle hardware and software platform in collaboration with Ocado to automate warehouse vehicles, last-mile delivery vehicles, and kerb-to-kitchen robots. Oxbotica is also developing a Level 4 self-driving system with ZF to enable passenger shuttles in major cities around the world, as well as deploying autonomy for BP vehicle fleets in a variety of industrial domains including wind farms, solar farms, and refineries.
Gavin Jackson said: “Oxbotica is on a mission to Make the Earth Move. Safely and sustainably unleashing the benefits of self-driving vehicles to every person and every organisation on the planet. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be at the heart of a transformational change in the way we live and work. The technology we are developing at Oxbotica will make the world safer, more sustainable, more accessible and more efficient, whilst changing the entire economic model for fleet operators.
Paul Newman, Founder & CTO at Oxbotica, added: “We are incredibly excited to welcome Gavin to the Oxbotica family at a pivotal moment in both the company’s journey, and on the road to autonomy. We are now part of a global ecosystem of world-class partners who are all collaborating to unlock the true potential of autonomy. Gavin’s résumé in the technology sector is unparalleled and he will help take Oxbotica to the next level as we continue to scale.”
Oxbotica is part of a global autonomy ecosystem with world-leading partners, and has raised total funds of around $100 million, with investors including BGF, bp ventures, Halma, HostPlus, IP Group, Tencent, Venture Science, and funds advised by Doxa Partners. Further investment was secured during 2021, from Ocado Group and ZF.
