Emergency services, safer roads partnerships, schools, businesses and communities will be running, cycling, walking or horse riding 1766 miles in May to raise awareness about the number of people killed in crashes on the UK’s roads.

The UK-wide event – called the RoadPeace Challenge 2024 – will take place between 13 and 19 May to raise money for RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims, and awareness about the support it provides to bereaved people.

Now in its fourth year, the RoadPeace Challenge has already raised more than £140,000 for RoadPeace, as well as public awareness about road harm.

Many police officers, safer roads partnerships, firefighters, police and crime commissioners, schools and road crash victims have already signed up to take part in the event, which is giving all participants a chance to make a united stand against road harm.

During the RoadPeace Challenge Week of Action (May 13-19, 2024):

• Participants will collectively walk, run, cycle or horse ride 1,766 miles to honour the 1,766 people reported killed on UK roads in 2022
• All participants will log their individual miles covered throughout the week, which will be recorded centrally by RoadPeace
• The charity will be counting down from 1,766 to zero miles – to reflect its Vision Zero efforts
• Anybody can take part – no matter how short the distance, it will all help to chip away at the overall target
• Each day, participants will post on social media sharing photographs of them in action alongside the hashtags – #RoadPeaceChallenge2024 and #1766MilesTogether
• RoadPeace is particularly keen to link in with schools this year and encourage children to log their miles throughout the week

RoadPeace provides support to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes, and engages in evidence-based policy and campaigning work to fight for justice for victims. The charity relies solely on donations and sponsorship, so this event will mean so much to RoadPeace and the many bereaved people and crash victims it supports.

There are also opportunities for corporate supporters to get involved this year. By making a donation companies will:

• Align their company with safer roads
• Inform and educate their stakeholders
• Applaud the work of the emergency services
• Acknowledge and support road crash victims
• Campaign for justice and a fairer society
