West Midlands police’s Assistant Chief Constable is promising a further rollout of average speed cameras in the region.
Birmingham Live reports senior officers are determined to expand the coverage of cameras in the region amid concerns over speeding and dangerous driving.
It says Mike O’Hara told a force meeting that speeding was “the main area of focus” for senior officers, despite the fact many speeding drivers currently get away with it in the region. More average speed cameras from leading supplier Jenoptik have been added to main roads in Birmingham and the Black Country over recent years.
The report says funding is an obstacle that must be overcome however before more cameras can be installed and it’s likely to be a slow process. West Midlands Police has been holding discussions with local authorities about creating a joint road safety strategy in a bid to secure cash for more cameras.
