Siemens has received Home Office Type Approval for its SafeZone average speed enforcement system, meaning evidence gathered is admissible in court.

Its ANPR-based solution uses the company’s British-built Sicore II cameras to provide accurate enforcement, and the certification covers a number of new features, including day/night mode functionality, which enables the camera to operate without the need for additional lighting to be installed.

Wilke Reints, Managing Director of Siemens Mobility’s Intelligent Traffic Systems business in the UK, said, “The new standards associated with Home Office approval are high; testing is rigorous and demanding. This is really important if traffic offences are to be pursued. With this latest evolution of SafeZone, we have an average speed enforcement solution that leads the market in terms of security, image quality, capture rates and system performance.”

Siemens is working with WJ Group to deliver temporary automatic speed camera at road works (TASCAR) systems. The first, for Avon and Somerset Police, was installed at Junction 23 of the M5 in Somerset while another is for Hampshire Police on the A27 in Hampshire.

“Our experienced teams have worked extremely closely to provide the installation, set up, validation and maintenance for each project,” added Reints. “We look forward to collaboratively delivering many more such schemes with WJ over the coming months across the UK’s road network.”
