SNP MP demands A9 “transparency”

The Scottish Nationalist Party MP Fergus Ewing is demanding his own government hands over important documents linked to the delayed dualling of the A9.

The Scottish Daily Express quotes Mr Ewing calling for more transparency over its failure to deliver the road scheme, saying it would hand over papers “if it has nothing to hide”.

Mr Ewing has tweeted that within the Programme for Government, the SNP committed firmly to dual the A96 between Inverness and Auldearn, which also includes the crucial Nairn bypass, but that “it’s disheartening that we are now almost a year past the assurances made by the former Transport Secretary that the necessary statutory orders, such as those pertaining to compulsory purchases & ancillary roads, would be concluded within weeks. My constituents in Nairn & indeed the entire North of Scotland, have been patiently waiting for progress on this critical infrastructure.”

“I called on the First Minister to instruct the current Transport Secretary to deliver an oral statement to the Parliament, elucidating the reasons behind the ongoing delays. Our region deserves transparency regarding the status of this indispensable development.

“Rest assured, I will remain steadfast in holding the government accountable for the commitments we have made. I will continue to press for answers and ensure our region receives the focus and action it rightfully demands.”

The Scottish Daily Express says Transport Scotland officials previously said that the A9 dualling timetable was “aspirational” more than confirmed.
