Strathclyde Partnership for Transport funds £2.35m of North Lanarkshire improvements

North Lanarkshire residents are set to benefit from £2.35m of transport improvements over the next three years thanks to investment from Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), says the Daily Record.

The funding comes from SPT’s Capital Programme 2026/27 to 2028/29. It has been allocated to local authorities and other delivery partners of SPT to support the delivery of its Regional Transport Strategy, which aims to improve accessibility, affordability, availability and connectivity of transport across Strathclyde, as well as reducing carbon emissions and promoting active travel.

A total of £350,000 has been allocated to Bellshill public transport infrastructure improvements and Coatbridge Bus Hub.

£63,000 has also been allocated to improving Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI).

Councillor Stephen Dornan, Chair of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, said:

“We remain committed to improving transport across the SPT region, ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable transport options for all. Our investment programme will help ensure that communities, residents and businesses across North Lanarkshire can share in the benefits of improved public transport and active travel.

“Our work continues to align with the objectives set out in our Regional Transport Strategy and we look forward to collaborating with local authorities and partners to deliver meaningful transport improvements that support connectivity, inclusion and a greener, more connected region.”
