The strong arm of the lawn: Dartford Bridge shut as man attempts to cross it on mower

In scenes reminiscent of the film ‘The Straight Story’, Essex Police seized a lawnmower that was being driven over the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge on Friday. The Dartford Crossing was temporarily closed at 7.45am as police interepted the lawnmower by implementing what may well have been the slowest recorded rolling road block.

According to MyLondon, a spokesperson from Essex police released a statement about the incident that read: “We were called at about 7.45am this morning, Friday 23 August, with reports of a lawnmower being driven on the Dartford River Crossing. Working with National Highways, the lawnmower was collected while a rolling road block was in place and the road has now been fully reopened.”

There were significant delays with queuing traffic on the Crossing from Junction 31 for the A1306 towards Lakeside and Purfleet to Junction 1A for the A206 to Dartford.
