Traffic managers in Slovenia are training on a range of scenarios in a virtual world in order to be better prepared to manage road incidents and disruption in real life.
Network supervisors in the Republic of Slovenia’s management centre DARS are using the tool from Aimsun which simulates the live traffic environment based on a pre-calibrated model. This model offers a realistic test environment for the operators.
Aimsun says any scenario and any incident can be created in the Aimsun Next model, where operators managing the Ljubljana ring road and arterial roads can then learn the best strategies to mitigate those incidents.
It adds its software recreates realistic behaviour of the drivers and their responses to the events and ITS measures on the road and they can test out their responses within software developed by Q-Free ASA Traffic design, PNZ d.o.o. and ASIST.
This upgrade aims to increase responsiveness, safety and efficiency for all traffic supervisors at DARS.
DARS has produced a video explaining the concept.
