This week’s data about traffic volumes from the Transport Technology Forum suggests that all vehicle types are back to their pre-lockdown levels – with the exception of cars.
The analysis of traffic in the week beginning 20 July has found that traffic is now at 13.5% below baseline, bus and coach volumes have returned to baseline and goods vehicles are above.
Meanwhile morning peak cycling volumes are at some of the highest volumes since lockdown began, whereas between the peaks and the afternoon peak are significantly reduced compared to weeks in April and May.
This week’s report also looks at how a range of boroughs in London are encouraging walking and cycling by changing public spaces, how central government funding is being used to improve infrastructure and bus links, and attempts to affect long-term behavioural change.
