Paula Claytonsmith, policy support advisor to the DfT and Innovate UK funded Transport Technology Forum (TTF), will deliver an update at the Transport + Energy Forum – an event which will bring together key stakeholder groups to discuss the actions that need to be taken to reach net zero.
Paula – who is also Director, Government and Strategy at Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) – will provide an update on the work of the TTF and highlight how the worlds of transport and energy are linked through the work the organisation is involved in.
With more than two-thirds of emissions from energy production, and a third of all emissions from transport, decarbonising these two sectors will lead the net zero agenda across the world.
The idea behind the inaugural Transport + Energy Forum event is to unite professionals from both industries to help accelerate this transition.
Focusing on what and how, the Forum event will set out the breadth of the challenge faced with a real focus on actionable solutions that can be taken now. The event is taking place on 17th November at the Birmingham Conference & Events Centre.
This exclusive event will connect transport and energy leaders with policymakers, industry groups, NGOs, the supply chain, networks, regulators, the highways sector, tech disruptors, local authorities, customer groups, plus other stakeholders tasked with the job of fully decarbonising our transport and energy systems.
Local authorities are being provided with fully funded places, including meals and accommodation.
Last year the Transport Technology Forum set up a Working Group to help local councils tackle the challenges around delivering charging networks for the anticipated huge growth in electric vehicles (EVs).
The TTF, which is a group to bring government – both national and local – and private sector innovators together to further the use of technology in the transport sector – agreed an initial commitment to sharing best practice and producing an EV handbook for use by local authorities. This is due to be published imminently.
The working group is chaired by Shamala Evans-Gadgil, EV Project Manager at Coventry City Council, who is also speaking at the upcoming Forum event.
The Forum will include high-level keynote speeches about how governments and businesses can accelerate the transition to clean transport and energy. It will also include interactive panel debates focused on the key challenges and solutions; educational presentations; and much more.
Several high-profile speakers will be attending the Forum, including Katie Black, Joint Head of the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV); motoring broadcaster and transport campaigner Quentin Willson; Graeme Cooper, Head of Future Markets at National Grid; plus many more. Using sponsorship revenue, local authorities will be able to send a representative who will receive a place at the conference and an invitation to the evening reception, plus accommodation.
“The TTF acts as a bridge between central and local government, so it is great to see that local authorities are being recognised for the key role they’re going to play in the transition to clean transport and energy, by being awarded fully funded places at this important event,” commented Paula Claytonsmith.
“I look forward to updating many councils and wider stakeholder groups on the work of the TTF. It is important to keep driving forward collaboration and innovation as ultimately this will help us all to reach net zero.”
