VolkerHighways has been awarded a Road and Tunnel Network Incident Support Unit traffic management contract along part of the A13, on behalf of Road Management Services RMS (A13) Plc.
The A13 links Central London with East London and South Essex. RMS (A13) Plc manage 16 miles (25km) of the network on behalf of Transport for London (TfL). This includes the Docklands Roads, Limehouse Link and East India Dock road tunnels.
The contract involves responding to routine inspections and emergency callouts, as well as providing routine high-speed traffic management for highway and tunnel maintenance works undertaken by RMS throughout the year.
As part of the one-year contract, VolkerHighways will be involved in daily meetings to discuss on-going planned traffic management requirements. Their knowledge will be used to find smarter and safer ways of working on this extremely busy London arterial route into and out of the capital.
To support the contract, up to ten fully trained operatives and managers/supervisors will be working on the project at any time.
Alistair Thompson, managing director for VolkerHighways, said: “The A13 is an extremely busy, inter-connecting road for commuters. We are pleased to have been awarded this contract to work collaboratively with Road Management Services (A13) Plc, to ensure the safety of all highway users and everyone involved in the maintenance of the highway which continues to be number one priority for our business.”
David Guy, head of operations for RMS, said: “We are delighted to have VolkerHighways back working with us; their knowledge and experience of the A13 is fundamental for RMS to be able to develop and operate a safe and free flowing network. Our goals are mutually aligned and we look forward to working in close partnership throughout the duration of the contract.”
