VolkerHighways has launched a Road Safety Slogan Competition to all local schools in the areas they work, encouraging young people to think creatively about staying safe on and around the roads.

The competition forms part of the company’s support for Brake’s Road Safety Week (15-21 November 2026). The initiative aims to raise awareness of road safety amongst children, giving the opportunity to promote life-saving messages across communities in which VolkerHighways work.

Children are to write a short, memorable and fun slogan that promotes safe behaviour when walking, cycling, or scooting near roads. The winning slogan will be displayed on VolkerHighways vans, helping spread the message to a wide audience.

At VolkerHighways the safety of the public on the highway network is at the heart of their works. Alongside delivering essential highway works, VolkerHighways is committed to creating lasting relationships with primary schools and drive meaningful change.

As part of the prize, the winning school will receive £500 worth of school improvements, as well as a dedicated road safety assembly, featuring one of their road safety mascots; Kerby, Amber or Sally. The winning student will receive £50 book token vouchers and pupils will be given a road safety badge featuring the winning slogan.

The competition is now open with schools invited to submit entries by Friday 2 October. The winning slogan will be announced during the week commencing 12 October. Entries are open to schools in the following areas: Bath & North East Somerset, Somerset, West Sussex, Wokingham, Slough, Luton, Medway, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Kingston & Sutton, Brentwood and Oxfordshire.
