New speed restrictions are set to be introduced on two major roads in Horsham in West Sussex. West Sussex County Council is planning to put 50 mph limits on lengths of the A264 Horsham Bypass and the A264 Crawley Road on the approaches to and including Moorhead roundabout, says Sussex World.
Details of the proposals can be viewed on the council’s website – http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/tro – where comments or objections can also be made.
The Traffic Regulation Order states:
“The County Council in exercise of their powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, propose to introduce a permanent Order the effect of which will be to introduce a 50mph speed limit on lengths of the A264 Horsham Bypass and the A264 Crawley Road on the approaches to and including the Moorhead roundabout junction.
“The 50mph speed limit on the A264 Horsham Bypass currently terminates west of Moorhead roundabout junction. In connection with highway works associated with the Mowbray development it is proposed to reduce the speed limit on the Moorhead roundabout junction and on the A264 approaches to the Moorhead roundabout from 70mph to 50mph.
The 50mph speed limit on Horsham Bypass will be extended to the Moorhead roundabout and a 50mph speed limit will be introduced on the A264 Crawley Road from the Moorhead roundabout junction to a point north-east of Wimland Road. The speed limit on the B2195 (Crawley Road) is to remain as existing, i.e. 40mph. The reduced speed limit on the A264 is required as part of the highway works that will partially signalise the existing roundabout junction along with local road widening to increase its capacity. As the Moorhead roundabout is to be partially signalised, it is appropriate to reduce traffic speeds. The proposed speed limit accords with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges standard.”
The council says that any views about the proposals must be received by 12 March.
