Winvic sites’ Doing It Right checklist supported by Turtle Medical response trauma kits

Turtle Medical is supporting Winvic Construction Ltd to raise the bar in construction safety by placing bespoke Emergency Response Trauma Kits on its sites.

The kits contain items like fast-to-apply tourniquets, chest seals and military grade haemostatic gauze, which clots blood when packed into a wound.

Winvic’s HSEQ team approached Turtle Medical, which has produced The Daniel Baird Foundation bleed control kits for several years, to ask for guidance on the items required to control potentially fatal bleed injuries. The innovative manufacturer of defibrillator and bleed control cabinets, bleed control kits and supplier of medical equipment has tailored the Emergency Response Trauma Kit contents to meet the needs of a large construction workforce; multiples of many items ensure several injuries can be treated at once if required.

The original specialist – but simple-to-use – lifesaving kits were created by The Daniel Baird Foundation in partnership with West Midlands Ambulance Service. While they were designed to be used by the public without training, being familiar with emergency medical equipment like a chest seal or defibrillator, helps first responders to act faster and more confidently.

Turtle Medical also facilitated a programme of First Aid Trauma Training for Winvic, delivered by Abacus Training Centre, aligning with the contractor’s culture of continuous learning. The training covered everything from immediate trauma response to hands-on first aid scenarios, giving the Winvic team the tools and further knowledge to act quickly and effectively in an emergency.

Ian Goodhead, Winvic’s Group HSEQ Director, said:

“In line with our Doing It Right ethos, we foster a culture of continuous learning, and we are now even more prepared to act quickly and confidently. The work of The Daniel Baird Foundation has transformed the way members of the public can act fast in an emergency, and now our team can quickly manage a traumatic bleed injury on site or nearby. We’re grateful to the Foundation’s bleed control kit producer Turtle Medical for guiding us through the specialist contents to ensure our Emergency Response Trauma Kits contain the correct items.”
