£900,000 highways improvements for major Staffordshire road

A large-scale highways improvements scheme is due to start on a major Burton Road in Staffordshire this week.

The £900,000 scheme on the A511 Horninglow Road North is being carried out by Staffordshire County Council’s highways team and is phase one of a programme of improvements to be carried out on the road over the next year.

The improvements are part of a wider £6 million investment by the county council in Burton’s roads over the next two years.

Work will include reconstruction and resurfacing of the road from the junction of Horninglow Croft to the junction of Farm Road. Repairs to the drainage systems, kerbing, ironwork, and footpaths will also be included. The scheme is expected to take around six weeks to complete weather permitting.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said: “Good roads are extremely important to everyone which is why we are investing an extra £50 million in highways repairs and maintenance over the next three years, on top of any grant given by government.

“In Burton alone, a major programme of improvements is already underway and over the next two years we’ll be investing more than £6m into highways in the town and the surrounding areas. schemes already completed include those at Station Road, Clay Mills, Ashby Road, Wetmore Road and Hawkins Lane.

“Further improvement works are also planned for Horninglow Road in the vicinity of the Derby Turn Roundabout and between Dover Road and Kitling Greaves Lane including the Calais Road junction. These will happen later in the year in order to avoid clashes with other roadworks happening in the town.

“This is another important scheme for the town that will help deliver smoother journeys for motorists and help prolong the life of the road.  Crews will be doing their best to keep any disruption to a minimum and I would like to thank people for their co-operation while this vital work takes place.”
