Several roads in Herefordshire remain closed due to flooding and drivers are being warned water levels could rise again with more wet weather forecast. There are nine flood alerts in the county, meaning flooding is possible, says the BBC.

According to the county council, there were nine road closures, external on smaller roads which were not major travel routes.

“We could see some levels rise again, particularly in those smaller and flashier catchments around the county, so places like Ewyas Harold,” said Ed Bradford, the authority’s head of highways.

“The main network is open for us across the county, so that’s our A and B roads. When we get rain, there’s a bit of uncertainty.”

He said the forecast was for about 15mm of rain in some places. At its height over the weekend, he added about 20 roads were closed.

“I think the week looks still wet and unstable but we’re keeping an eye on it, responding where we can,” Bradford said. “We’ve had that wet January and the ground is incredibly saturated, so we’re seeing that run off from land.”
