MPs to quiz transport and tech firms on integrated journeys

The Transport Committee is to explore how transport operators and technology companies can help to make integrated transport a reality in the UK.

Tomorrow morning at 09:15 the Committee will hear from representatives of bus, electric bike and transport technology firms as it continues its inquiry into joined-up journeys.

The inquiry is examining how Government can shape transport services, networks and options to meet the needs of transport users and the journeys that they need to make in their daily lives.

The second session will cover the physical infrastructure needed to support integration, and the ways in which technology could support joined-up journeys.

The Committee will look into whether the UK’s transport infrastructure is currently set up in a way which supports integration, and what changes could improve this.

Witnesses could be asked about what good integration looks like in urban, suburban and rural areas, and how different types of technology could improve joined-up travel for passengers.

There will also be a focus on how operators and technology companies can work with one another, and with Government, to facilitate improved integration.

The inquiry into joined-up journeys comes as the Government has announced plans for an Integrated National Transport Strategy, setting the direction for how transport should be designed, built and operated in England over the next 10 years.

Witnesses:

  • Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director at Arriva UK Bus
  • Samuel Griffiths, Head of Northern Europe at Via
  • Will Jansen, Chief Operations Officer at Forest
  • Roberrt Price, Programme Manager, Transport and Mobility at techUK
