AtkinsRéalis appoints new highways lead

AtkinsRéalis Transportation UK has announced that it has made two senior appointments at board level.

Ian Spellacey (picture) takes on the role of Market Director, Strategic & Regional Highways. He brings 30 years of contracting experience to the role, including as Director of Highways Services at Balfour Beatty and Managing Director at ConnectPlus Services – the consortium responsible for operating and maintaining the M25. Since joining AtkinsRéalis in 2018 he has developed a broad understanding of our Strategic Highways business and in the past two years was our Strategic Growth Director – identifying new opportunities across mass transit, ports and logistics and helping to shape our pipeline. That strategic perspective is exactly what this role needs.

Sarah Price has been appointed Practice Director for Transport Advisory & Consultancy. She joined AtkinsRéalis in 2007 and has become one of our most respected leaders across nearly two decades, progressing through senior technical and leadership roles to most recently serve as Transformation Programme Director. Sarah has spent the majority of her career with us as a leader in our environment business, delivering major infrastructure projects across the UK and then latterly driving transformation in our defence business. That range of experience gives her a distinctive ability to cut across disciplines and help clients work through complex challenges.

AtkinsRéalis Transport Director Colette Carroll said:

“I want to take a moment to thank Peter Baynham, who has been a cornerstone of our Transportation business as Strategic & Regional Highways Market Director for the past nine years. He leaves behind a strong team and a lasting legacy on some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes – and I know he’ll go on to do brilliant things in his new role in our Complex Projects team.

“This is a period of real change for the transport sector, with asset renewal, resilience, digital transformation and place-based growth reshaping the landscape. I’m really excited to see how Sarah and Ian help our clients navigate the future.”
