TfGM chooses Yutraffic FUSION to deliver ‘smarter, greener mobility’ across the region

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has selected Yutraffic FUSION, Yunex Traffic’s adaptive traffic control solution, to optimise traffic flow and enhance more sustainable public transport modes across the region. The move underpins TfGM’s ambition that by 2040, 50% of all journeys will be made by public transport or active travel, with no net growth in motor vehicle traffic.

Developed with Transport for London (TfL), Yutraffic FUSION is a real-time, multi-modal traffic management solution that continuously monitors approaching traffic, modelling, optimising and managing the needs of all road users, including cars, pedestrians, cyclists, HGVs, public transport and emergency vehicles. Through its combination of adaptive and predictive control, and advanced traffic modelling and forecasting, the system enables more sustainable modes such as buses and active travel to be prioritised, while providing rich data and analytics to continuously improve network efficiency.

Across Greater Manchester, Yutraffic FUSION will enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of TfGM’s integrated transport system, particularly the Bee Network which provides public transport for Greater Manchester’s residents, workers and visitors. Since its launch in 2023 the Bee Network has seen 300 million journeys made by bus, with service punctuality regularly exceeding targets of 80% compared to around 66% pre-bus franchising Yutraffic FUSION will build on this success, enabling specific modes of transport, such as buses, to be prioritised, with its rich data allowing TfGM to work alongside bus operators to continuously enhance services and meet the evolving needs and expectations of its passengers.

Wilke Reints, Managing Director of Yunex Traffic UK, said:

“We’re proud to support TfGM with the deployment of Yutraffic FUSION and help deliver its vision for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Greater Manchester.

“Real-time adaptability and predictive forecasting are essential for effective traffic management, and this intelligent system aligns perfectly with TfGM’s goals to prioritise sustainability and active travel, while reducing congestion, improving journey times and delivering a more reliable network for all road users. Fully scalable, Yutraffic FUSION will help Greater Manchester meet its transport needs today and into the future, promoting healthier, more sustainable mobility for all.”

“We’re delighted to be strengthening our partnership with Yunex Traffic by investing in technology which helps us in our ongoing efforts to move people more efficiently while supporting the growth of the Bee Network,” added Peter Boulton, Network Director for Highways TfGM

“Yutraffic FUSION will complement our ongoing work, strengthening how we manage the network in real time to respond faster to changing conditions, improve traffic flow and keep Greater Manchester moving, while delivering a more reliable and sustainable network for everyone.”
