The £1.5bn upgrade of the A14 through Cambridgeshire has fully opened, cutting 20 minutes off the journey between the West Midlands and Suffolk coast.
The work involved bypassing two roundabouts near Huntingdon, one at the junction of the A1, and simplifying the intersection with the M11 and A421 northwest of Cambridge.
All but cosmetic work has been done and all temporary speed restrictions have been removed.
Highways England CEO Jim O’Sullivan said opening early and on budget “shows what the UK construction industry can achieve with an integrated client team, common goals and targets, and a shared vision of success.”
