A720 closure: tree removal work continues on trunk road

BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is carrying out essential works to remove potentially hazardous trees affected by ash dieback at 11 sites on the A720 trunk road between Baberton Junction and Sheriffhall Roundabout.

The works started last night, Tuesday 5 March and wil continue tonight, Wednesday 6 March ,between the hours of 21:30 and 05:30.

On the night of Wednesday 6 March, slips roads exiting the eastbound A720 at Straiton and Lasswade will be closed in sequence for several hours each, with diversion routes signposted Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network manager, said: “It is essential for safety that we close slips roads on the eastbound carriageway of the A720 while we remove potentially hazardous trees.

“We understand that this will be disruptive and have planned the works to take place at night when traffic flows are lower to reduce the impact. The nature of the works will result in a slight increase in noise levels and we apologise in advance for the inconvenience this may cause.

“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”

All works are weather-dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
