AA encourages “park and cycle” schemes

The AA is calling for park-and-cycle schemes to be set up on the outskirts of cities to help people avoid public transport but keep traffic moving.

President of the AA Edmund King says it’s vital to support people who have to drive to work, telling the Daily Telegraph, “It’s fine to say, walk and cycle if it’s three miles, but a lot of commuters commute a lot further than that. One of the things we’ve floated to the government is, could you have some emergency park-and-cycle sites at the outskirts.”

The report says King suggested that London’s O2 (pictured) could be turned into a parking facility that would enable commuters to get into the city by bike.
