Anglesey: A55 to close for several nights amid work on active-travel links

A section of the A55 is to close for several nights this month to enable active travel improvements on Anglesey. The work being carried out is part of a £1.3m scheme to improve pedestrian and cycling links between Holyhead and Trearddur Bay.

This will see a 2.5-mile multi-user path created. This impacts the area around Junction 2 of the A55 in Holyhead.

New footways are being built on access roads and there will be new pedestrian crossings over A55 slip roads. To improve safety, a new bridge parapet is also planned at the junction, says North Wales Live.

Work has already been taking place since March but this month will see nightly closures of the A55.

It will be closed in both directions from 7pm-6am, starting from June 9 and continuing until June 14. It will only mean short diversions off the A55 at the junction although these may become busy when ferries come into Holyhead.

When completed, the active travel route will run from the A5 Tesco roundabout in Holyhead through Parc Cybi and on to Trearddur Bay. The scheme’s aim is to provide “key connections” to Holyhead Leisure Centre, Penrhos Retail Park and Parc Cybi.
