Another resurfacing scheme successfully completed by VolkerHighways

VolkerHighways’ surfacing division recently completed a total of 8,400m2 resurfacing works along the A13 near Barking, on behalf of RMS. The project was priced, mobilised and completed within three weeks.

The scheme involved the resurfacing of six areas along the A13, including Movers Lane west bound off slip where the team planed off 40mm of existing surface, which had rutted and lost its texture, and replaced with specialised low carbon stone mastic asphalt. The team then completed resurfacing works along the main dual carriageway between Wennington Interchange and Ferry Lane Interchange where they laid 2,500m2 of new surface. VolkerHighways also resurfaced the Ferry Lane on slip and off slip and Commercial Road near Limehouse Link.

Thanks to VolkerHighways’ high-quality delivery, while on site, RMS asked the business to carry out additional works, and the team completed a further 350m2 of patching. This reduced the cost of remobilisation and traffic management set-up, providing better value for money for the client.

The A13 is a major road linking central London with East London and South Essex. To reduce disruption to commuters, VolkerHighways delivered the works across seven nights.

David Whitson, contracts manager for VolkerHighways, said: “The A13 had suffered significant wear and tear over time, requiring the team to resurface six major areas. The A13 now provides a smoother ride for commuters.”
