Barnsley Council’s cabinet are set to meet to approve an additional £10 million into Barnsley’s roads.

The project will be funded through the re-prioritisation of resources already included within the council’s plans and will be delivered over the current financial year and the following three years, says the Barnsley Chronicle. The investment will first need to be approved by cabinet on 4 November, but would expand the number of frontline teams carrying out road repairs.

A key focus will be on reducing the need for repeated temporary fixes where longer-lasting options can be used. It will add to the council’s existing £18.3 million highways capital programme, which is already underway this year.

The funding will be spread over the next four years.
