Cohda On-Board Unit approved for EU public transport and as OEM Aftermarket accessory

V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology company Cohda Wireless, has announced that its On-Board Unit (OBU) has successfully achieved E1 certification, paving the way for its V2X technology to be incorporated into public transport systems and as an approved OEM Aftermarket Accessory across Europe.

As part of the E1 certification process, Cohda’s OBU has undergone and passed crucial tests, including ECE R10 and ECE R118. ECE R10 ensures electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance, a crucial requirement for vehicles operating in dense urban environments with extensive electronic systems, while ECE R118 verifies fire resistance for materials used in vehicle interiors, an essential safety standard for buses and trams.

With E1 certification granted by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), Cohda Wireless’ OBU is now eligible to bear the E1 mark. This mark signifies compliance with the stringent safety and regulatory requirements set by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and confirms the OBU’s suitability for deployment in public transportation and other automotive applications.

“These approvals are a significant milestone in ensuring that our V2X technology can be incorporated into public transport fleets and acquired as an approved OEM Aftermarket Accessory,” said Bernd Luebben, VP Business Development, Cohda Wireless (pictured). “Buses, trams, and other forms of road-based public transport play a critical role in the world of connected mobility, and our world-leading OBU can be deployed to enable advanced V2X applications, having met the required safety and efficiency standards.”

Cohda Wireless’ OBU already holds multiple industry-recognised certifications, including EC, UKCA, FCC, ISED and KC, ensuring seamless deployment across global markets. “With extensive experience in working with OEMs, infrastructure providers, and regulatory bodies, Cohda Wireless continues to lead the way in V2X innovation, providing reliable, scalable, and secure solutions for smarter and safer public transport networks,” the company adds.
