The pressure group Just Stop Oil has announced that Dartford Crossing protestor Morgan Trowland has been freed after 14 months in jail.
He had been arrested after the protest in October 2022 and remanded, and was then jailed for three years at a trial in April this year.
His fellow protestor Markus Decker, who was jailed for two years and seven months.
Just Stop Oil says Trowland was released from HMP Highpoint yesterday (12 December).
A JSO statement reads: “We’re extremely pleased to see Morgan free once again. He acted with love, and was punished in a way that has terrifying implications for the rights of all people in the UK. The fact remains that Marcus Decker is still imprisoned, and is facing the prospect of being torn away from his family, his friends, and his community. Automatic deportation is a cruel and unusual punishment. We urge everyone to sign the petition to stop Marcus’ deportation.“
After the trial Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe called the actions “completely unacceptable, dangerous and incredibly disruptive.”
