Two drivers have been convicted of dangerous driving after being caught by an ambulance’s dashcam doing more than 100mph on a 60-limit road in Essex.
The drivers were on the A133 in Clacton-on-sea in August when they overtook the ambulance. One was driving at 125mph.
Kyle Brown, 26 of Fleetwood Avenue, Holland-on-Sea and Jack Savage, 31 of Writtle Close, Clacton-on-Sea were both issued a Community Order comprising of 200 hours of unpaid work, to be completed within 12 months, and automatically disqualified from driving for 12 months and required to sit an extended test.
The ambulance driver and his colleague called 999 after they were overtaken by two vehicles, obviously travelling in excess of the road limit.
The blue Audi (Brown) and a black Ford Focus (Savage) drove on the wrong side of the road, into oncoming traffic, and both caused vehicles in either direction to take evasive action to avoid a serious collision.
The ambulance’s dash cam was reviewed by Essex Police’s Roads Policing Unit, capturing the evidence needed to prosecute both drivers.
The Road Safety Support officer calculated the pair, although not together, were travelling at an average speed 101mph (Savage) and between 120 and 125mph (Brown) in the video footage.
Both men pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.
