Deadline approaches for highways professionals to apply for future skills funding

Highways and transport professionals looking to upgrade their skills this year are being reminded that funding support is available through the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund, but that the deadline is in ten days’ time.

The charity is offering grants of up to £10,000 through its Ready for the Future programme, aimed at helping people develop expertise in areas where skills are currently in short supply across the sector.

The initiative is designed to support those who may not be able to access employer funding, enabling them to undertake further study that will benefit both their careers and the wider highways industry.

As previously reported by Highways News, the scheme is focused on addressing key skills gaps and preparing the sector for future challenges by supporting professionals to gain knowledge in areas such as emerging technologies, data, sustainability and behavioural science.

Applicants can use the funding to cover course fees, with trustees particularly interested in proposals that demonstrate clear long-term value to the highways and transport sector.

The Rees Jeffreys Road Fund typically supports a small number of candidates each year who show strong commitment to a career in highways or transport and a clear plan for how their learning will make a difference.

The deadline for applications for this round of funding is 10 April, with full details and the online application form available on the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund website.
