Devon: Diversions and delays as National Highways investigates A38 bridge defect

Emergency roadworks operations are underway to fix a bridge joint defect with drivers facing a diversion off the main road while the works are taking place.

National Highways said the road would remain fully closed overnight Dean and Buckfastleigh and urged road users to plan ahead. The A38 is closed eastbound between the B3380 (Dean) and A384 (Buckfastleigh), says DevonLive.

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time,” National Highways said in a statement.

The Devon Expressway was partially closed at Dean Prior earlier in the day to allow for emergency repair work.

Devon County Council posted on X just after 3.30pm yesterday: “Due to an ongoing incident on the A38 Northbound, it remains closed between Dean and Buckfastleigh. Traffic is heavy in the area so please plan ahead.”
