Electric van maker about to start production for UPS

The EV startup Arrival is getting ready to begin production of electric vans for the parcel firm UPS at its microfactory in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

The company says it has invented a new method of assembly using low capital, low footprint microfactories located to serve local communities. UPS ordered hundreds of millions of euros worth of EVs in early 2020, numbering around 10,000 vehicles.

Autoweek reports Arrival plans to begin producing the van in Bicester this quarter, with deliveries to UPS and other customers this year. Production in Charlotte, North Carolina, near the company’s US headquarters, has been moved to 2023.

The report adds that company expects a slow start of production at Bicester this quarter, with just 20 units expected to reach customers in the fourth quarter of this year, with the rest expected to be customer demos.
