ERTICO issues Call for Tender to host 2028 and 2029 ITS European Congresses and the 2030 ITS World Congress

As Europe’s flagship events for smart and sustainable mobility, the ITS Congresses provide host cities with a unique platform to showcase their long-term mobility vision, demonstrate innovative solutions already in deployment, and strengthen international cooperation. Each Congress brings together global leaders, innovators, and policymakers, offering unparalleled visibility and the opportunity to accelerate progress toward safer, cleaner, and more efficient mobility systems.

The ITS Congresses have stood as the benchmark gathering for intelligent transport since 1994. Didier Gorteman, CFOO at ERTICO, comments:

“Our ITS Congresses were founded on a shared recognition that the transport sector needed a forum to exchange knowledge, address challenges, and accelerate the innovations shaping the future of mobility.” He adds, “For host cities, the Congress is far more than an event; it is an opportunity to become a genuine mobility living lab. By enabling the showcase of its pilots, live demonstrations, and close cooperation with local, regional, and national authorities, the Congress leaves a visible and lasting legacy that strengthens a city’s role in Europe’s mobility transition.”

Hosting an ITS Congress positions a city at the forefront of intelligent transport. Beyond reputational benefits, cities gain access to global stakeholders, new investment opportunities, and meaningful knowledge exchange that supports real-world deployment and economic development. Birmingham is the host city for the 2027 ITS World Congress.

The selection process consists of two stages. Interested cities are invited to submit an Initial Call for Interest, which includes a Minimum Requirements document. Successful applicants will then be invited to take part in the second phase: a full tender submission.

The deadline for submitting the Call for Interest is 13 February 2026. Cities wishing to participate and receive the Minimum Requirements document are encouraged to contact Pamela Valente at [email protected]

ERTICO looks forward to engaging with cities eager to lead the way in shaping the future of intelligent, inclusive, and sustainable mobility across Europe and beyond.
