Flow Labs and Florida DOT District Five launch industry-first AI-powered real-time traffic management platform

Flow Labs and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Five today announced the successful launch of a region-wide, AI-powered, real-time traffic management system now operational across 2,000 intersections in the Orlando metropolitan area. This expansion represents one of the largest real-time traffic analytics deployments in the nation.

At the core of the deployment is a breakthrough capability: validated, real-time turning movement counts powered by Flow Labs’ proprietary AI. Historically one of the most difficult and expensive datasets for agencies to obtain, turning movement counts have traditionally been limited to short-term manual field studies. Flow Labs’ AI-enabled platform is the first to deliver this data continuously, accurately, and at scale, giving FDOT District Five and surrounding regions unprecedented visibility into how traffic flows through its network.

The system integrates Luminus, Luminus Plus, and Flow RT, Flow Labs’ real-time AI platform, into FDOT’s existing infrastructure. Through real-time Application Program Interfaces (APIs), the platform seamlessly connects with FDOT’s internal systems, including its Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), enabling a fully integrated operational environment. This ensures FDOT has validated, real-time insights across its network, available at scale and directly usable in day-to-day operations.

“By validating accuracy in the pilot, we built the foundation for trust—and now that trust has turned into a live deployment at unprecedented scale,” said Jatish Patel, CEO of Flow Labs. “With the industry’s first AI-powered, real-time turning movement counts, FDOT can now leverage data that was once rare, costly, and static—transforming it into an operational tool for managing traffic every day.”

The live system equips FDOT with the ability to monitor, analyze, and respond to traffic conditions in real time, improving efficiency and supporting safety and congestion management initiatives across Central Florida.

Tushar Patel, Interim TSMO Manager for FDOT District Five, said,

“The Flow Labs platform provides us with system-wide, real-time visibility that we’ve never had before. With this live deployment, we’re better equipped to manage traffic, enhance safety, and serve the traveling public.”
