Google Maps is increasing its functionality to offer more location-based services and a better user experience for iPhone users.
Its live traffic conditions are now available from the home screen, meaning that people can be alerted to nearby problems before they start their journeys without needing to start the app, and change plans accordingly.
Another feature is the ability to share your real-time location while you’re texting so you update people with exactly where you are, and track you as you meet up. The default is to allow that location to be shared for one hour, with the option to extend up to three days.
It also features a dark mode to make it easier to view at night, and cut down on battery usage, while in areas with intermittent internet connectivity, the relevant section of map can be downloaded to the phone before a journey is taken.
