Havering Council launches active travel consultation

Havering Council has launched a comprehensive active travel consultation, aimed at transforming the way we move around our community over the next 15 years.

This initiative seeks to gather valuable insights from residents to promote safer, more sustainable travel options and residents are encouraged to share their views on current travel habits as well as potential improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure.

The consultation is part of Havering’s broader strategy to reduce car dependency, improve public health, and create a more environmentally-friendly community in which people can get around the borough safely on foot or by bike, if they choose to do so.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of the Council, said: “Whilst we are aware that many residents rely upon their car to get around the borough, we are also committed to creating a greener, healthier Havering and this consultation is a crucial step in understanding the needs and preferences of our residents.

“By promoting  active travel—walking, cycling, and wheeling (manual and powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters) – we aim to give our residents a real choice for how they may wish to travel, whilst at the same time create a healthier, more connected, and vibrant borough.

“By working together, we can help to shape a transportation system that benefits everyone.”

There is also a special version of our Active Travel Consultation, just for children and young people aged under 18, and up to age 25 with special educational needs.
