A series of footpath improvements are set to be complete by the end of April in Telford & Wrekin on time and within budget.

In total .5km of drop kerbs have been reset or replaced, more than 2,000 ironwork requests completed and roughly the distance from Southwater to Cadbury World in Birmingham treated with a specialist surface treatment as well as around 3,700m2 of patching work – half the size of professional football pitch.  

Hollinswood and Randlay has seen fly-tips cleared, overgrown hedges cut back as well as maintenance to keep footpaths in good order such as weed spraying, patching, resetting/replacing kerbs and ironwork, resurfacing, replacement of slabs (where required) and surface treatments. 

Councillor Lee Carter, (Lab) cabinet member for neighbourhood services, regeneration and the high street said: “Footpaths are something we rarely notice until they start to deteriorate – it’s at this point they have a huge impact on people. 

“Mobility scooters and walking aids, people pushing babies in buggies, children learning to walk – people of all ages rely on our footpaths being of a good standard and are probably unaware of the amount of work and investment that goes into maintaining the 1,000km + we’re responsible for.

“The programme enables further improvements to take place as part of continued efforts to improve access for residents and visitors.”

The next phase of work will see teams moving into the Leegomery and Overdale and further details of around 15 future packages will be announced in due course.
