ITS UK welcomes cross party consensus on the importance of transport technology at Parliamentary Reception

Intelligent Transport Systems UK has welcomed cross-party recognition on the importance and value of transport technology solutions, following its Parliamentary Reception last week.

The Reception saw speeches from Transport Innovation & Decarbonisation Minister Jesse Norman MP (pictured), Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson Baroness Randerson and Shadow Business and Industry Minister Bill Esterson MP, as well as speeches by David Wear of Cubic Transportation Systems, Stuart Scott of Mott MacDonald and Chair of ITS UK, and Max Sugarman, Chief Executive of ITS UK.

All three Parliamentarians highlighted the value of technology in ensuring the UK has a low carbon, integrated and effective transport system, praising the work of the 100+ ITS UK Members, innovators and technologists in the room.

Max Sugarman, Chief Executive of ITS UK, said: “Our inaugural Parliamentary Reception was a fantastic opportunity to promote the great work of the intelligent transport sector to MPs, Peers and policymakers. It was great to see recognition from all political representatives of the role transport technology can play in delivering a safe, low carbon, efficient and effective transport system, and the value of the industry as a catalyst for economic growth and investment. We look forward to working with all the political parties to ensure the right policy environment for the sector to continue to grow and flourish.”

The Reception was held as part of Better Transport Week, a week-long celebration of sustainable transport from 12 to 18 June 2023, organised by the Campaign for Better Transport, and of which ITS UK is a partner organisation.
