ITS World Congress puts in protocols to reduce restrictions

The organisers of next month’s ITS World Congress in Hamburg have agreed with local authorities for the event to have what is called 2G status, so a raft of distancing measures will not be needed.

The work by ERTICO – ITS Europe means all attendees would need to be vaccinated with one of the four EU recognised vaccines or proved to have recovered from COVID.

The vast majority of Germany’s COVID regulations will not be enforced at the congress, which should lead to the atmosphere within the conference centre being as close to normal as you can get, with no “social distancing” required.  Other normal things, like being able to eat while standing up and chatting, should also be permitted.

Harry Evers, Managing Director, ITS Hamburg 2021 GmbH said, [With these 2G rules, participants can exchange ideas and network more freely, which creates a real ITS World Congress atmosphere.”

Anjes Tjarks, Minister for Transport and Mobility Transition in Hamburg added, “At the ITS World Congress, we want to show how large international events can still take place during a pandemic and be a great experience for all. Of course, to host a large international congress in the current pandemic involves huge challenges for visitors, exhibitors and organisers.”

Those who want to visit a 2-G event must prove their “vaccinated” or “recovered” status and provide photo ID. The organiser is responsible for entry checks. More about the 2G format is here.

The World Congress takes place through the week beginning 11 October.  All details including the programme and how to sign up are here.
