LCRIG publishes second AI mini-guide: Road Condition Monitoring

The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) has announced the publication of the second instalment in its AI Mini-Guide series. Sponsored by Gaist, this new guide focuses on one of the most immediate and high-impact applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Road Condition Monitoring.

AI is rapidly moving from curiosity to a critical tool across the highways and road infrastructure technology sector. At the LCRIG 2025 Innovation Festival and in LCRIG’s recent Innovation Survey and report, 83% of members identified AI as the most important emerging theme.

The AI Mini-Guide series has been developed to help the sector cut through the hype and adopt AI with clarity and confidence, providing a set of practical, jargon-free resources exploring how AI can drive better outcomes in highways and transport.

The guide also features a detailed case study, showcasing two real-world examples of how AI is already improving outcomes for highway authorities through more efficient and accurate Road Condition Monitoring. Upcoming guides will focus on AI applications in areas such as severe weather, road signals, connected data from vehicles, and cyber security.
Each guide is supported by an educational webinar and offers practical insights, real-world case studies, and expert guidance to help professionals adopt AI safely and effectively.
