The Department for Transport’s Transport Technology Forum (TTF) is looking for local authorities and their suppliers or consultants to share examples of use cases which have used data to improve transport.
Through its support agreement with the TTF, the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) is working on gathering these into a live repository, to be made available via TTF channels. This repository will help to illustrate how councils are using a wide range of data sources to deliver better transport to their communities.
The Transport Data Strategy, which was published in published March 2023, demonstrates how government works with and supports the transport sector to harness the benefits of data to help grow and level up the economy, reduce environmental impacts and improve transport for the user.
Through a range of research and engagement, the strategy sets out targeted interventions to support a healthy transport data ecosystem. These interventions can be grouped into 5 themes including:
- sharing, discoverability and access
- data standards and quality
- skills, culture and leadership
- user needs and communication
- governance, protection and ethics
“If you are a council or supplier (working with a council) that has proven usage of multiple sources, then we want to hear about it in order to build this knowledge pool and share with others,” commented LCRIG’s Head of Sector Insights, Daniel Cullern. “It is important that multiple blended sources of data are being utilised in line with DfT’s Data Strategy because at this stage we can’t look a single usages.”
Authorities, their suppliers and consultants are asked to email daniel.cullern@lcrig.org.uk by 14th February.
