National Highways has announced that the M62, A162, and A1 in North, West and East Yorkshire will face temporary speed limits and closures due to safety works, with the measures are set to start on 1 September 2026, and are expected to last several months

The M62 eastbound carriageway will have a temporary 50mph speed limit imposed from 300 metres west of the exit slip road at Junction 34 to 300 metres east of the entry slip road at the same junction, covering a distance of 895 metres, says The York Press.

The eastbound entry slip road at Junction 34 will also be closed for the duration of the works, which are anticipated to last six months.

Similar restrictions will also apply to the A162 and A1 trunk roads, where parapet, restraints, and concrete replacement works will be carried out.

A temporary speed limit of 50mph will be enforced on the A162 southbound carriageway from 225 metres north of Ferrybridge Interchange North to the A162 southbound carriageway with the M62 entry slip road at Junction 33.

The same speed limit will apply to the A1/A162 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at its junction with the A1 to the entry slip road of the M62 at Junction 33.

Other areas affected by the temporary speed limit include the A162 northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 33, the A1 northbound exit link road with the A162, and specified lanes of the A162 during lane closures.

Vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6ft 6in and overall weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes will be banned from specified lanes of the A162 during lane closures.

The works on the A162 and A1 trunk roads are expected to last for three months.

The orders come into force on 31 August and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
