M8 roadworks delayed by weather but warnings of long delays this coming weekend

Roadworks on the M8 in Scotland’s Central Belt will go ahead as planned this coming weekend (25 to 28 October) after works this last weekend were cancelled because of Storm Ashley.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland has already successfully refurbished and re-waterproofed the westbound half of Longacre Bridge, which carries the motorway over Craigens Road between Junctions 5 and 6.

To allow works to be completed to the eastbound half of the bridge, M8 traffic will be managed under a contraflow system affecting both directions this weekend, with two lanes in each direction.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said that the works are weather dependent and couldn’t go ahead this weekend due to forecast heavy rain. “However we’re still aiming to complete the job next weekend as planned,” he added. “The project is essential to ensuring that this motorway structure continues to provide a safe and reliable service for years to come.”
