A man has died six days after being involved in a crash with a car while riding an e-scooter on a road in Wolverhampton.
This is the latest in a series of accidents involving the emerging technology, but believed to be the first fatality.
The Daily Mail reports 20 year old Shakur Pinnock spent a week on a life support machine after a collision with a Volkswagen Golf in Prestwood Road, Wolverhampton, on Saturday, June 12.
The report says Mr Pinnock suffered multiple serious injuries in the tragedy, including a fractured skull, two severed arteries, a broken jaw and punctured lungs.
His girlfriend Chante, who was a passenger on the scooter, was seriously injured.
Police say the driver of the VW Golf involved in the collision remained at the scene and was not arrested and continues to help with the investigation.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said in a statement, “Our thoughts remain with Shakur’s family and friends at this distressing time.
“We are continuing with our enquiries to establish exactly what happened and would ask any witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers or anyone who has any dash-cam footage around the time of the collision at 3.25pm on Saturday 12 June to get in contact.
“It is important that we establish the facts and get the much needed answers for everyone involved.
“I can confirm that this was a private e-scooter but would ask that people do not speculate on the circumstances of the collision, especially on social media, as this does nothing to help the family, those involved or the investigation.”
A Justgiving page has been set up for the family.
