The main contender against Sadiq Khan for London Mayor is suggesting black cab drivers should be given interest-free loans to buy electric versions of the iconic vehicle.
Shaun Bailey told The Sun that City Hall would also pay a tenth towards the zero-emission cars and install more charging points so they do not run out on the road.
He says the move would clean up the air and save drivers £115 a week in fuel.
The report adds that, although Cabbies are banned from buying new diesel vehicles, only 3,500 have gone electric. It is thought the scheme could help another 15,000 do so.
It’s not said how it’ll be funded.
