Michigan: City of Ann Arbor deploys Yutraffic FUSION

The City of Ann Arbor, Michigan, lopks set to remains at the forefront of transportation innovation with the introduction of Yunex Traffic’s Yutraffic FUSION, becoming the first city in North America to adopt the adaptive technology.

The new Yutraffic FUSION algorithm builds upon decades of practical experience and years of development in collaboration with customers. Its user-friendly interface, streamlined workflows, and efficient management techniques make adaptive traffic management simpler than ever.

Since 2003, the City of Ann Arbor, represented by John Tomich, Senior Traffic Engineer, has utilized Yunex Traffic’s adaptive solutions to manage traffic efficiently, especially during Michigan football gamedays when the city’s population quadruples. The adaptive solutions have optimized traffic flow and saved the city thousands of dollars in retiming costs, which typically occur every 3-5 years.

“Adaptive technologies have been around for years, but historically they have been clunky and tedious to make the solution respond the way you want. With Yutraffic FUSION, the menus, screens, and workflows are intuitive, making changes easier than ever before” says Marc Segal, Head of US Adpative Solutions at Yunex Traffic North America. “We are  excited to show more cities in North America how adaptive transport solutions can help their unique traffic situations.”

As connected and autonomous vehicle technology grows, having a signal system that can accommodate and respond to multi-modal traffic is crucial. Yutraffic FUSION is the first multi-modal adaptive solution, designed to move people efficiently, not just vehicles. First installations in European cities have shown significant improvements compared to conventional traffic control.

Following the initial deployment, Yutraffic FUSION will be compared with existing adaptive technology and tested in use cases such as the accelerated deployment of City maintenance vehicles, enhancing service to the citizens of Ann Arbor.

Additionally, Yutraffic FUSION offers a profound opportunity to support cities on the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. By leveraging advanced data inputs and policy-driven controls, the system has the ability to prioritize vulnerable road users, reducing potential conflict points and fostering safer, more inclusive transportation networks. Equally, public transportation stands to benefit significantly, as Yutraffic FUSION can enhance signal prioritization for buses and trams, ensuring more reliable schedules and efficient routes.
